Storage & Ripening

How to Spot Ripe Mangosteen

  • Colour Guide: Ripe Mangosteen has a beautiful reddish-purple to deep purple rind, with delicate, snow-white segments inside. The skin may continue to darken naturally after harvesting.
  • Touch & Feel: Fresh, ripe Mangosteen should yield slightly when gently pressed. A very hard, woody rind can indicate that the fruit has been stored for too long or has suffered damage.

Storing at Home

  • Keep Them Cool: Store whole Mangosteen in a cool place, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Ideally, keep them at around 12–15°C to help preserve their freshness.
  • Enjoy While Fresh: Mangosteen is a delicate tropical fruit, best enjoyed soon after arrival. Avoid prolonged storage in a very cold fridge, as low temperatures can cause the rind to harden and affect fruit quality.

Opening & Enjoying

  • How to Open: Gently press the rind until it begins to split, or carefully score around the middle with a knife, taking care not to cut into the flesh. Twist the two halves apart to reveal the beautiful white segments inside.
  • After Opening: Enjoy the juicy white flesh fresh, removing any seeds. If you have leftovers, keep them covered in the fridge and enjoy promptly.

How long will my Mangosteen stay fresh?

Mangosteen is a delicate tropical fruit, and its freshness depends on its condition when it arrives and how it's stored. We recommend enjoying it as soon as possible for the best flavour and texture. See our Storage & Ripening guide for more tips.
